Official shout out to my food loving home-slices

Such a long title, but I want to know who all out there that reads this, has started getting healthy this year, and what motivated you to do so?  What things are you doing in your every day life to improve your well being?  Are you eating better?  Are you getting a little extra physical activity?  Did you decide to cut heavily processed sugary beverages out of your daily diet?

A month ago I challenged my friends and family to get healthy with me, however they choose to do so, was entirely up to them, and I just want an update on that.  So far, I’ve kept my end of the bargain, I’ve cut out all refined sugars, and am now in O.W.L. of the Atkins Nutritional Approach, I go walking twice a week with the awesome Tina, and hopefully next week, my friend Steph and I can get something worked out so that we can start our 5K training, I try to do Wii Fit, but I’m getting bored with it, and am looking for something a little more fun and diverse to pump up my heart rate, I no longer drink soda, except Diet Rite, and I’m sleeping so much better at night.  I have lost now, last week when I checked, 18 pounds, and am down to a loose fitting size 18 pants, and a large-sized T-shirt.  I started out wearing 20-22′s, and with some shirts, wore a 2X.

So this is me, reaching out to all of you out there, post your story in my comments, or hell, if you’re uncomfortable with that, e-mail me charli@negapock.com, and I’ll post up your story anonymously, along with other people’s stories off and on throughout the next couple months, so that people can see not just my bravery in changing my life, but yours as well!!!

Much love folks, happy nomming and moving!!!

  1. I wish I could say I was getting healthier! I can’t sleep well, I’ve got stomach pains and heartburn every day, so I haven’t been working out because I just don’t have the energy.
Now that I’m married, I can actually afford to eat healthier, but I don’t. Not having a full kitchen to work with sucks. I can barely fit anything in the mini fridge next to a gallon of milk and I’m limited to a microwave for cooking. I buy a lot of frozen dinners and have to keep them in the freezer in the garage.
I’m hoping Eric gets sent somewhere new soon, so I can have a kitchen and actually be able to cook healthy meals and not the frozen crap I eat now. Also, as a military spouse I have free access to the gym but it’s 45 minutes away. Moving will solve that problem too.
    I feel so lazy!

    • have you ever thought of getting a different place, doing a short term lease, so that you CAN have access to a full kitchen? Maybe get a place that’s in between work and the base so that you can go work out? Or talk to me, come over, eat with me, you’ll start eating better and get something to take home, maybe you can start walking with me and Tina, or walking/jogging with me and Steph? There are options, and I am fully willing and capable of helping you reach those goals.

      • I’ve been keeping my eye open for someplace between him and I since January but everything’s been really expensive compared to the $500 with all utilities included I’m paying here. Eric is supposed to finish school at the end of this month so hopefully he’ll get sent somewhere new right after. When do you walk with Tina/Steph? I’ll have to come over more often. Let me know when you make the yummies. :D hehe.

      • Tina and I walk on Tuesday and Thursday mornings at around 9:30 am, that way I still have time to walk if I have to work at noon. Steph and I have yet to set a date and keep a schedule, but I’m hoping we can do so soon. I cook every day possible, and prepare something every meal when possible. Omelets and atkins pancakes/waffles are a breakfast staple, vegetable/protein/fat rich salads are a general lunch, and dinner is usually pretty late, but is usually something a little more intensive, like the roasted chicken, or burgers or something like that. You’d love the roasted chicken I made, and I plan on doing it probably every other week or so, because it feeds us for a few days with one chicken. Just let me know when you want to come over, and we’ll figure out what to make, I eat moderate sized meals every few hours, lol. So chances of you finding me at a time for food is very likely throughout the day!!! hahaha!!!

  2. Hi Bups67 from the Atkins board here. Officially have 140lbs to lose. Have tried a few other diets, HCG most recently. Never stuck with any of them. I started eating Atkins-like in early Jan of this year. I would do well during the week and then eat crap on the weekend. Chips are my weakness. I lost weight but quickly gained it back once I stopped.

I gave up for a few weeks to get my head in the right place. I am now on day 21 of Induction. I have lost 10lbs so far and am feeling great. Having difficulty with getting in all the veggies as I could have gone days before without eating any.

Also still having trouble wrapping my head around the fat is good concept. I am expecting a heart attack at any minute (not a joke!)

Will prob move into OWL this week. I absolutely LOVE weight loss blogs. Reading about someone who is or was where I am, is very inspiring.

Most recent success – getting my rings back on – they have been too tight to wear for about 5 months :)

    • So awesome!! Thanks for posting!! O.W.L. is intimidating at first, but I’m going slow and steady, only going up 5 net carb increments every couple of weeks, I still have about 85 pounds to lose myself, so going more slowly is what I feel will be the best option for my weight-loss, without compromising variety. Good to hear from you!!!

  3. I have tried so many diets in the last 20 years, I cannot even begin to tell you all of them.. Here are a few. Nutrisystem, Weight watchers, ADA, Just trying on my own. My weight just kept creeping up.
Finally, when my Dr. suggested a gastric bypass, I knew I needed to do something. I tried Atkins about 10 years ago, but I guess I wasn’t serious enough to make it work.
I restarted Atkins on January 18th, 2011. I needed to lose 176 lbs. Very daunting just thinking about it.
After 3 months I have now lost 54 lbs, and now have 122 to go.
It feels so good to have energy.
I can now fit in a restaurant booth, and also get on the floor to play with my grandkids, and get back up with no help.
I cannot express how this life feels right now.
    Onward and downward.
    Laura

  4. I did Atkins in the 90′s.Lost lots of weight. This was before net cards. You counted total carbs. For me total carbs works better.Less hassle .I like to keep things simple.Once I started to taste other things such as nuts or fruit I was on a downhill ride.I got up to 184.I am a small framed 61 yr.old and short.I started back on Jan.19.As of today I’ve lost 39 lbs.I have some health issues that can be life threatening so I decide it was time to act.I am now sugar free & gluten free. I now consume no alcohol. It’s amazing how great I feel.My total cholestrol dropped 70 points in in 8 weeks.I see the dr.in two weeks. Can’t wait.If I can do this anyone can.Nothing taste as good being thin feels.Exercise is a major key.Move.Move ,Move.
